As the autumnal sun warmed us all up this afternoon, I couldn’t help but notice how beautiful Nanny and Grandad’s garden looked. Yes, there are a few flowers on their last legs, ready to sleep for the winter but others are enjoying their swan song.
Sorry for the lame attempt at arty shots (I only tend to snap things that don’t move) but I thought it would be nice to share the last snippets of summer before the long nights draw in.
Grandad’s garden is his pride and joy; but as his proficiency in being an Empty-Nester increased, the size of his lawn decreased until this happened!
Nanny has her corner of the garden too, with pots of fabulous roses and hydrangeas.
The shed has seen many a paint job over the years! The latest revival is a salute to all things nautical, complemented by a shale ‘beach’ complete with lighthouse and a couple of puffins (alongside a noseless golfer and high-as-a-kite toadstool!)
My favourite characteristic of their garden is the hidden (and not so hidden) curios dotted around. From the bold, simplistic flags, to the barrel rings and antique chimney stack, each element brings a story to the party! I particularly love the two decorative blowfish, bought for the Lord and the General (photo credit for those photos goes to the Lord himself!)
When we first moved back to the UK, Grandad apologised to the boys for having no grass to run around on. The reality is that the boys LOVE running around the pots, scooting on the deck and helping to tend the vegetable patch – they couldn’t be happier!
As autumn approaches, we get to enjoy the changing of the leaves and pulling the last of the beetroot.

Beautiful pics – what a gorgeous garden. My only attempt at a veg patch was containers on a small London roof terrace – a bit of a disaster!

I know the feeling Kimberly. I had a balcony in Toronto for almost five years and the most colourful it ever got was the occasional pigeon!

I absolutely love the garden! It truly looks like something out of a movie. So playful, and such a fun place for the grandchildren to grow up. I think I’ll try my shot at growing my own vegetable garden next year. Thanks for sharing! ❤ #KCACOLS

Hi Abi, I wanted to drop by after your very kind and considerate message on my blog! Living in a two bed flat (and quickly running out of space!) this garden looks perfect. I often dream of having a house with a garden so I can have fun with different plants and colours (we can but dream…with two under two!) We’re hoping we’ll be moved out by this time next year – yippee!

What a beautiful garden! I LOVE the little one at the bottom with the tiny flower pots. I wish I could manage something like this – the gardening gene passed me by but a pretty garden makes me feel immensely calm and peaceful. Can I move in with Nanny and Grandad?
