Unsung London

My beautiful and talented sister-in-law has started the amazing Unsung London on Instagram.p

Here is a sample of her fabulous photos but please follow her to check out the rest!

That is all.

And So Begins A Screen-free Week!

In a desperate attempt to curtail the Lord’s persistent night terrors I am embarking on a week of no TV, no iPad and no phones.  We don’t watch a huge amount of TV but Netflix is most certainly the curse of the modern day family with favourite programmes readily available to binge on demand.

Gone are the days when you’d get home and wait patiently for Fun House to start, or you’d sneak a bit of Saved By The Bell before your mates called for you on the way to school. Instead, I am bombarded with requests for Paw Patrol, Thomas, Peppa, Lego City…the list goes on.  I wouldn’t mind if it was just one episode but the abundance of children’s TV channels and automatic streaming on Netflix mean there is no end in sight!

To top it all off, every mama blogger I have the pleasure of following has been talking about the recent study regarding how much time our kids spend outside.  A shocking 3/4 of children in the UK spend less time outdoors than an average prisoner.  This is a upsettingly scary statistic and has triggered me to be much more mindful of how we spend our time.  As city-living condo-dwellers we don’t have the luxury of a garden so it can be a chore to bundle up and get out but as a stay at home mum THIS IS MY JOB!  Today, I am stepping up and stepping out!

Stay tuned to see how our week goes!

Throw It Back Thursdays: Legitimate Reasons For Drinking Before 5pm

I don’t know about you but by the time Thursday comes around I have very little left.  My patience is drained, my energy has gone and that adorable bottle of wine is looking remarkably consumable.

Who am I kidding?!  Let’s not pretend that I only drink on or after Thursdays!  There are some Tuesdays that need a bit of a lift, and Mondays are pretty tough after a nice weekend of Daddy time.  You don’t need to make up an excuse, but if you are ever feeling guilty about hitting the bottle mid-week (and sometimes not long after midday!) I have compiled my top, legitimate reasons for drinking before 5pm:

I Still Got It…Errr

I hope those of you who celebrate it had a nice Easter and for those that don’t, congrats on the free long weekend!!

Before the teacup humans came along I liked nothing more than entertaining friends, cooking a lovely three-course meal and enjoying some good wine.  Then the whirlwinds turned up and that became a thing of the past.

A Morning In The Life Of A Stay At Home Mum

**Initially, this post was titled A Day In The Life Of A Stay At Home Mum but after an hour of writing I’d not even left the house so I think a shorter timeframe is more appropriate!**

We’ve all seen the fabulous photos of celebrity mums lording it up around town with their immaculate children and put-together looks. When you decided to have kiddies, I’m sure you thought ‘I’m going to be that mum, stay at home with my kids and thoroughly enjoy the blessing that is have a family…aaaahhhh’

Everyone Knows These Mums (Part II)

Long time, no see  peeps. A cheeky little vacay for me and I’m back with the latest instalment of our beloved mama categories! Since the first part, I have found myself critiquing my definitions for you lovely people so let’s hit the next group of mums that we all know and love!

This Parenting Malarkey Is Really Tough…

Caution:  This post contains language of an adult nature and far too many exclamation points.  Reader discretion is advised. (Sorry Mum!)

I know this is stating the obvious but parenting is really, really tough.  For so many years we are solely responsible for the health and wellbeing of miniature people. We feed them, teach them, love them, discipline them and so much more to boot. Yet it seems we are hell-bent on making it so much tougher than it really needs to be.

A Week In Toronto…With Toddlers!

When we first moved to Toronto almost four and a half years ago, we didn’t even know where to shop let alone where to entertain mini humans (admittedly this wasn’t quite on our radar at that time!)

Then the Lord arrived and we continued our trudge up and down Yonge Street, enjoying lunch pretty much whenever we fancied it.  As any parent of a toddler knows this peaceful yummy-mummy phase is short-lived (my goodness, I’d make so much more of this time if I could be a first time mum again!)

It’s Party Time!

The past few days have been a frenzy of presents, baking, partying and weather so cold it hurts your eyes to be outside.

The Lord turned three on Friday.  Three is the age when kids are finally aware that birthdays mean gifts and cake but they’re not quite sure why!  Needless to say the joy of opening presents is quickly proceeded by tears when Mummy says world-ending phrases such as “but you have to share your toys with your brother” or “he’s only little, let him have a go”.
